SEPANG: The diving squad and national shooter Suryani Mohamed Taibi are optimistic of bringing back medals despite the various challenges to be faced at the London Olympics.
Although the diving squad were surprised that officials from Europe dominated the jury panel, Pandelela Rinong said the squad must avoid making minor errors during the preliminary rounds of the heats.
Referring to the complete list of the jury panel obtained from the website, Europe had the largest number of representatives with nine officials all together, including one from the host nation, Great Britain, she said.
"To me what's important is to make a good dive to convince the jury to give the best mark," Pandelela told reporters when met at the KL International Airport, here Monday night.
Pandelela and seven other divers, national swimmer, Koo Chai Lin, national fencing athlete, Yu Peng Kean and Suryani left for London Monday night to compete in the Olympic.
The seven divers are Bryan Nickson Lomas, Huang Qiang, Yeoh Ken Nee, Cheong Jun Hoong, Ng Yan Yee, Traisy Vivien Tukiet and Leong Mun Yee.
Meanwhile, Suryani, who is in her eighth month of pregnancy, said she would be competing in the women's 10m Air Rifle event.
"I consider the championship as any other that I have participated in previously. I don't want to give too much focus on it.
To me, adequate mental preparation is enough to overcome whatever obstacles," she said. - Bernama
